Manufactured by cybersecurity provider Lavasoft (formerly also known as Ad-Aware) Adaware is a security program that aims to fight the various types of malicious applications and privacy infringements that a lot of consumers aren’t even aware of. This includes programs that track your surfing habits, programs that hijack the web page that opens your browser and applications that display irritating ads at the most unsettling times. This free software comes with various features that increase your device’s security and ensure it runs smoothly.
In our tests, adaware was able to detect the majority of malware we tried to throw at it. It did have trouble removing some, however. The program comes with a few useful extras, such as privacy monitors and a registry scanner. It also comes with a file shredder, advanced network monitoring, as well as the privacy watch. It’s important to note, however, that adaware can’t offer as much security as some of the most popular antivirus programs in the market.
The last time adaware participated in AV-Test lab tests, it best antivirus was able to block only ninety-five. 4% of 0-day threats and 97% of known threats. They’re not terrible, but they certainly don’t come close to what the best security suites can do.
Users who want adaware to perform better, should look at alternatives. We suggest Kaspersky and Bitdefender as they are known for their reliability and performance in real-world tests. Additionally only Pro and Total plan users have access to online technical and customer support, which may be a bit disappointing to some users. The company does offer various information and frequently asked questions on its website.
